I see this thing is trying to be the swiss army knife of the BBS world. Is there anyway to disable the extraneous services and any way to change the ports
the ones you want are binding too?

So far neither of these has looked obvious..

Most of that is in the sbbs.in in the ctrl directory, some is also
    in services.ini.

Trying to find stuff online seems to be like a trip down the rabbit hole.....

Thanks for the heads up.. I see a lot of stuff about confi , and the promise of being able to disable stuff... but nothing on actually disabling services.

As I see it, I need to abort any www, ftp, mail, irc, qotd, hotline, gopher, flash, finger, and Active User action.

All I require is probably telnet, nntp, and whatever drives the message transfer end of things....

    drives the message
    transfer end of things....

That would be binkit, a JS mailer. I don't think it enabled by
default but it'll be (or need to be) in your services.ini.

I actually disabled that.. and I might have been a little unclear too. Transport probably isn't so much the issue and scan and pack. If I'm lucky I'll
be able to copy the packets around the file system and toss them that way.

I'll give you something for you to get your teeth into then eh...

    Can you explain this one?

    9/15 19:58:36 evnt NEWSLINK !GROUP comp.emulators.apple2
FAILURE: 500 "GROUP" not implemented; try "help".

You have newslink configured (in ctrl/newslink.cfg) to attach to a news/nntp server and exchange messages, however that new server
you're connecting to doesn't support the "GROUP" command. Are you
sure that's actually a news server?

For sure. Its INND running on the same machine. The innd logs show it arrive, authenticate itself and log off... at present that's all I have to work with. I'll look over the innd info I have and see what I can see at that end.

    I committed an update to newslink.js: http://cvs.synchro.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/exec/newslink.js

Once updated, you can add the following line to your
    ctrl/newslink.cfg file: reader_mode

Ahh ok, this is where I'm a novice completely, update it how?

You have choices. If you got the file initially using CVS, then go to
your Synchronet "exec" directory and type "cvs update newslink.js".

    Easy enough... ta.

Done, I'm not in a position to try it right now. But so far so good
