I actually ordered a third Internet connection to my home today. A
    measly 8Mbit
ADSL connection - at least they tend not to cut the phone lines as
    often where
    I live.

Can't get ADSL here anymore, those lines (and true POTS) have been phased out. All we have is NBN (FTTN using VDSL for the last leg from the node at this location). Only other possible backup is 4G (and eventually 5G, when it gets out here). :)

Do you have WISPs out there operating in (what is here) the unlicensed spectrum? i.e., wispa.org

YMMV on the pricing, but excellent and reliable wireless backhauls and a
simple PtP Ubiquiti radio you can mount on a mast (or even stick to your
    window with doublestick tape).

Will the real 5G please stand up. Either that or the 4.5G they renamed :/

Never heard of this one before, another one that sounds vaguely like Melb Wireless. <-- Local Mesh/ptp network. I'm going to have a look though. MW has been pretty dead in the water for years now. Can't get enough penetration to have viable network coverage. It only uses off the shelf 2.4/5Ghz equipment so in theory anyone can join.

That reminds me, speaking of annoying/stressful and cellphones - there's this huge-ass deadzone along a major roadway near where I live (and it was where
my old workplace was too - We're talking very high road traffic volume), where no cellular data traffic can get out, if not barely any at all - I bet you couldn't even telnet into a BBS with how bad the bandwidth is out there.

I asked my sis about it, and apparently it has to do with Verizon having exclusive rights to the cellphone tower in that specific area. Talk about bullshit.
