In South Australia, you can return used drink cans for money, these days you get 10c for each can you return. When I lived there the depot that I went to had a collection of empty cans that I guess they saved from recycling to put on display. All sorts of different ones, some very old ones too.

Here is the same, the difference being that many people collect beer cans (and any kind of aluminum cans) for a living.

Also, in Adelaide you would also see people go through the bins in the city collecting any bottles and cans that people had thrown away to take back for money. A different type of collection, but still :)

That's right. There's a huge recycling industry here that funds it.
