• Hub 3 - more issues

From deon@21:2/116 to All on Monday, November 30, 2020 09:59:58
    Hey folks,

Looks like my Hub keeps failing after a few hours - I'm on a hunch its the USB storage, so I've replaced it with a USB caddy holding an SSD drive.

I'm keeping an eye on it, so if it fails I should see fairly quickly - but if you dont see it back up after a few hours (I'm GMT+11, so sleeping excluded ;) send me an email...

Sorry for the hastles - just when I was starting to ignore it because it was running soooo well, it started failing. :(

Thank you for keeping an eye on things, bummer about the hardware stuff. I
hate it when that happens to me too..

After over an TB of data writes (just an estimate), I'm still waiting for my SD

card to fail. I'm starting to trust the SD storage (until it fails ;)).

Yeah, I've had good luck with SD cards - none have failed yet, and I've had the

same one in my Pi 3+ when I first got the 3+ (when it was released).

Hub 3's failure was a new SAN disk USB stick - and its only a month old... :|

good to know. there are so many reports of failing sd cards after a couple of months.

I wouldn't use USB sticks. They usually don't support fstrim and wear out faster (at least in my experience). One month is a very short lifespan though, especially for SanDisk. (my SD card is from SanDisk)

I've replaced it with a USB caddy holding an SSD drive.

There is hope that it will last much longer. Do you know if your caddy supports

    fstrim?

    I dont think so.

The PI is running ESXi and it doesnt recognise the disk as an SSD. So fstrim doesnt work in guest.... ;(
