• Modem mod

    I'm not sure if g00r00 uses this net but it would be cool to add a modem mod to Netrunner. Sometimes I get the itch to break out the old modem and would like to be able to use a modern terminal.

    Hi!
    Do you mean a mod for Netrunner to "dial-up" a BBS with a modem?
    That would be |08c|09o|10o|11l |07.

    Yup thats exactly what I want. Just hearing the old tones would be cool tool Like the ability to have it play the sound when connecting. I get it wouldn't be exactly the same but would also be a cool thing to have. Plus I still want to play with my old 14.4K I bought when I was a kid. It was killing me waiting for that to come in the mail.

    He doesn't, although he used to... got a bee in his bonnet about something
    and disappeared into the ether.

    I don't know anything about netrunner, but it may be quite feasible to
    achieve depending on what OS you're using.

    SyncTerm does this, it allows you to telnet out or modem dial, I love Netrunner myself but do use SyncTerm for Commodore boards because of the CG emulation..

    You can also beat Minicom into ANSI emulation as well... might be more
    straight forward.

    I believe the latest builds do, but not sure because I use an older build on my soon to be retired Win 10 main system. When I build my new main system with Debian 11 I will build from source..

    I had try Minicom in the past (Linux) and I can't found the way to use it with ANSI colors .

    I believe you have to change to ANSI each time after starting it;
    Ctrl+A then T and then A until you get Terminal Emulation: ANSI.
    I haven't found a way to have it default to ANSI on its own. :-(

    I also noticed that I have an environment variable set in my profile (e.g. .bash_profile or in my case /etc/profile.d/local.sh):

    export MINICOM="${MINICOM:+${MINICOM} }-c on -R CP437"

    ...which will usually result in:

    MINICOM="-c on -R CP437"

    ...i.e. color turned on and CP437 as the remote character set. :)

    Best regards

    Have a look at...

    https://superuser.com/questions/1398044/default-to-ansi-terminal-emulation-in- minicom

    In days of yore it may not have, or it was dependent on what termcaps you had installed in the system as to what emulations were available.. Usually the default was sufficient for me, I didn't use it for much other than testing purposes.
