I bought a used cable modem from my local Tech Thrift Shop about a year
ago and finally installed it in January. 2 weeks ago, I noticed on my
bill that I was still being charged.

I had a lengthy conversation with one of their agents about my bill, he
ended up coming up with a package that had removed most of my TV
channels and disconnected the phone service for $5 (!) less per month.
It did up my internet speed from 500 to 800 mbps and remove the
bandwidth cap a 1.2tb/month, albeit still asymmetric with 40 mbps
    upload speed.

With regards to the modem, they offered to credit me for 3 months of
modem rental charges and offer me the $10 credit for automatic
payment - which I already was receiving.

After about 20 minutes of back and forth, the $10 charge became a $40
"localty credit" for the next 12 months - I've been a customer of theirs
    for 15 years.

I received my most recent bill, 2 weeks after that call. Lo and behold,
no loyalty credit and another month of rental charges!

I suppose a Lesser Man would shrug and move on. I'm not that guy. I've
got an hour blocked out of my calendar, a pot of tea ready to go, some
of those little cookies with the raspberry filling and I'm going to be
on speakerphone the whole time, speaking through a mouthful of cookies.

I really need to find a way to get AT&T Fiber and cable with basic cable service for under what Comcast charges.

Yup! Companies just expect you don't have time to deal with their shit. Reps lie to get the sale or retention bonus. Give 'em hell!

I once had my company's long distance lines slammed. Our bill went from
    a negotiated, around $300/month to $5000/month - I think they were
charging us a buck a minute to the UK.

Getting a refund from the carrier who shall remain nameless, was, let's
just say, a marathon, not a Sprint. I probably had to call 10 times, and
ran the gamut from apologies and sending a message to a team to blaming
me for not checking my bills more thoroughly and trying to negotiate a
partial refund because I was partly to blame.

In the end, I got $10K back, for about 4 hours of work. Not a bad hourly rate...

I LOVE my customer service time w/ Xfinity... just call - keep telling them what you want and watch the credits stack up. I do this once every few months... in fact, I think I'm due a call RIGHT NOW. Maybe I'll press record and see if I can get some fire RECORDED.

Fuck Xfinity.... and feck you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
