Good morning! Let's play Connections, the NYT's clever word game that challenges you to group answers in various categories. It can be tough, so read on if you need clues.

What should you do once you've finished? Why, play some more word games of course. I've also got daily Strands hints and answers and Quordle hints and answers articles if you need help for those too, while Marc's Wordle today page covers the original viral word game.

SPOILER WARNING: Information about NYT Connections today is below, so don't read on if you don't want to know the answers. NYT Connections today (game #576) - today's words (Image credit: New York Times)

The answers to today's Connections, game #576, are YELLOW: VOCAL MUSIC A CAPPELLA, BARBERSHOP, DOO-WOP, MADRIGAL GREEN: A HANDFUL OF A FEW, CERTAIN, SOME, VARIOUS BLUE: BOOK SUBTITLES A LIFE, A NOVEL, ESSAYS, PART ONE PURPLE:
_ IS _ (IS _) A DEAL, A ROSE, ENOUGH, LOVE My rating: Hard My score: 3 mistakes

I found todays Connections utterly baffling and only completed it by chance and even then it took me a while to fully understand what the Purple group
was all about. I think seeing A LIFE, A NOVEL, A FEW, A DEAL and A ROSE in
the starting grid discombobulated my brain and I struggled to recover and think logically.

Having said that, I did get VOCAL MUSIC pretty quickly, but the rest was random guesswork despite the fact that I was singing along to No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) by Barbara Streisand and Donna Summer on New Years Eve. A roller disco classic if ever there was one.

My head hurts. Yesterday's NYT Connections answers (Monday, 6 January, game #575) YELLOW: BREATHE HARD GASP, HEAVE, PANT, PUFF GREEN: CATCHALL BLANKET, BROAD, GENERAL, UMBRELLA BLUE: METAPHORS FOR EASY THINGS ABC, BREEZE, PICNIC, PIE PURPLE: SYNONYMS FOR REAR END MINUS LAST LETTER ARS, BOOT, BUT, RUM What is NYT Connections?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green
is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite tough and purple usually very difficult.

On the plus side, you don't technically need to solve the final one, as
you'll be able to answer that one by a process of elimination. What's more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little bit of breathing room.

It's a little more involved than something like Wordle, however, and there
are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For instance, watch out for homophones and other word games that could disguise the answers.

It's playable for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.

LETTER CROWD, GULLY, PUFFING, SWANK My rating: Moderate My score: 1 hint

I got my answers a little back to front today, not seeing the yellow group OPERATING until second last. Although Im kicking myself that I didnt spot the word trickery employed for purples BIRD PLUS LETTER, the truth is I could
have stared at those words forever without seeing the cunning connection. Instead I wasted time thinking SWANK, FLASH and FUNCTIONAL were fashion styles.

THINGS IN A CAMERA KIT seemed a little clunky, as all of that quartet is usually one single thing rather than a kit, but LENS and FLASH seemed linked and STRAP and BODY made sense. Yesterday's NYT Connections answers (Monday,
13 January, game #582) YELLOW: TEACH COACH, GUIDE, SCHOOL, TRAIN GREEN: CACHE BANK, POOL, RESERVE, STORE BLUE: DRIVING INSTRUCTOR DIRECTIVES BRAKE, PARK, SIGNAL, TURN PURPLE: WORM BOOK, EARTH, GLOW, INCH What is NYT Connections?

What are the answers for today's NYT Connections groups? YELLOW: PUTDOWN GREEN: SMALL LIKENESS BLUE: USED TO CLEAR SNOW PURPLE: DOCTORS IN POP CULTURE

NO, OCTOPUS, PEPPER, WHO My rating: Easy My score: Perfect

The second I cast eyes upon WHO and NO I knew that we were looking for
DOCTORS IN POP CULTURE. PEPPER was an easy spot (easier than drinking it, anyway) but the fourth was trickier, not being a fan of the whole Marvel multiverse but OCTOPUS sort of sounded like a villain of some kind.

Having got the Purple group first I thought that would make the Yellow group easier to solve; I came close to completing THINGS TO CLEAR SNOW, but instead found all four PUTDOWN words and the green SMALL LIKENESS quartet.

How did you do today? Let me know in the comments below. I really struggled today and I doubt Im alone. JOKER, CARD and CHARACTER are fine for FUNNY PERSON, but LAUGH? I wasted two mistakes on that one. I know
if someone is funny, you might say theyre a good laugh but it still feels
like a verb in a group of nouns.

Oh well, Ill get over it!

Meanwhile, I took ages to get the CANDY BARS MINUS S as both MOUND(S) and AIRHEAD(S) are not available in the UK, where Im based, and I was instead drawn to linking MOUND with BUMP. Im pretty sure Mounds are the same as our Bounty bars, but Im not sure if theres a European equivalent of Airheads.
